Although Pramila Jayapal is not yet considered a career politician, she is already showing signs of a Mayhewian re-election mindset. Through mailers, symbolic speeches, and attempting to out-tweet Trump, Jayapal is committed to earning her seat time and time again.

Although PAC's were contradictory to her initial campaign platform, since Jayapal began accepting financial support from funds such as Women Vote, her public profile has been raised dramatically due to an onslaught of mailers sent around the Seattle area. Her face, at times has saturated the post offices to the point where many less-than-liberal households are receiving mailers in copious amounts.
Credit Claiming
With the entirety of the Democratic Party taking on Trump's Emergency Declaration, Jayapal found a small opportunity to remind her very liberal base of her continuing opposition to the Presidents border wall through her social media. She stated on Twitter (@RepJayapal) that she was "proud to have voted to overturn it", taking partial credit for the successful resolution.
Position Taking
In 2017 Jayapal gave a one minute general speech on the house floor about the Seattle Seahawks first amendment right to kneel during the national anthem. There is no policy direction presented, she is simply "standing in solidarity with the Seattle Seahawks". While this is a largely symbolic move, it is a move that splits along an oddly specific wedge issue that was well recieved in Washington's 7th district. In a more legislative approach, she loudly sponsored a Medicare-for-all bill in the House, which would dramatically transform the nation's health care system. She has mentioned the bill 7 times on her Facebook page, and 9 times on Twitter in under 24 hours since it's announcement. This health care measure extends her popularity beyond her district, as the state of Washington has already voted to expand medicare within their own borders several times through the Apple Health program.
